a booming rumble from the ocean deep
a wave is cresting in the south pacific sea
our vessel was the closest to the first of many desperate pleas
for help
from the boil rose a massive beast
luminescent scales, rising up 300 feet at least
scooped a fishing boat up with a razor claw
shoved it in its gaping maw
shattered into splinters
a single gnash, of its jagged jaw
oop oop do-do do-do we’re all gonna die
when you joined our crew … well you could not be cuter
I knew you were smart cuz you wore glasses and carried a tabalet computer
the galley guys said you’re a cryptozoologist
but that’s not a thing – you’re a xenoanthropologist
I knew I loved you from the moment we first met
the day the kaiju broke the world
oop oop do-do do-do we’re all gonna die
monstrous glowing eyes fire bolts of jarring electricity
pulverizing all it meets … with alarming specificity
the creature takes the city – buildings crumble like so much cardboard
we’re adrift in horror and we’re listing badly starboard
we held each other in a way-too-long embrace
and said those words we dared not say
until today
oop oop do-do do-do we’re all gonna die
